Hunter Valley Wine Country has several different regions, each with its own character and features. Every region is beautiful and close to each other so you can’t really make a wrong decision! But, here’s some information which can help you decide if a Pokolbin wedding is right for you.

What’s Pokolbin like?

Pokolbin and Rothbury are the main tourist areas of Hunter Valley Wine Country. The Hunter Valley’s first vineyards were planted here and there are lots of gorgeous wedding reception and ceremony venues. Because it’s the main gateway, you get the feel of wine country with more conveniences (like large group accommodation, amenities and activities) than some other areas.

Top reasons to have a Pokolbin/Rothbury wedding:

  • Centrally located.

Its central location means it’s super convenient for those having a destination wedding. Your guests will be able to stay together or close to each other and can even walk between some wineries and activities (which saves you the hassle of arranging transport and trying to coordinate everyone).

  • Good for first-timers to the Hunter Valley

Because so many of the major wineries and attractions are located in Pokolbin, it’s a good choice for couples/guests who haven’t spent much time in the Hunter Valley before. There are loads of activities like wine tasting (of course!), horse and carriage rides, hot air ballooning, and chocolate and cheese tasting. It will give you and your guests a good ‘taste’ of the region.

  • Amenities

Pokolbin has more amenities than some other areas of the Hunter Valley. The Hunter Valley Gardens, Peppers Creek Village and Pokolbin Village have a range of shops like cafes, beauticians, chemists, general stores and restaurants. The Hunter Valley Gardens also has Harrigan’s pub which is good for pre and post wedding catch ups as it fits large groups and stays open late.

  • Well set up for large groups.

Pokolbin has all types of accommodation, including B&B’s, guesthouses, cottages, hotels, motels and resorts. Quite a few of the larger hotels are located here so it’s a great option if you’re looking for larger group accommodation where everyone can stay together.

  • Indoor Chapel/Church options for your ceremony

Pretty much all Hunter Valley reception venues give you the option to have a ceremony in their grounds but it can be harder to find a venue with an on-site church/chapel. Pokolbin has a few options like the Hunter Valley Gardens, Peppers Creek or Chateau Elan where you can have a chapel wedding and your reception in the same location.

  • Almost every style of wedding

From wineries to restaurants, hotels and resorts, there are reception venues for pretty much every wedding style. The only thing is, if you’re a couple that’s looking to have a more relaxed/boho/teepee/picnic-style wedding, a region like Wollombi or Lovedale might suit you better.
